Who's upset the Gods of Wolfsburg?
Mind you I have also seen plenty of supposedly reliable modern cars being recovered over the last week or so - particluerly french cars (dodgy electrics). I suppose if I have to stand by the side of the road waiting for the AA I'd rather stand beside a Mk1 8) . Worked out before GTI last broke down, it had covered some 5000 miles since its last break down in March, not bad for 24 year old car with 210000 on the clock….
Cheers

I noticed an abundence of ford escorts broken down recently, maybe it's just me looking too hard as I have an intent dislike for fords, hence I love the term Fix Or Repair Daily. Mind you VW is supposidly Virtually Worthless, lets hope not.

Just about remember the good old days of BL. Most winter mornings in the late seventies you'd see various Allegro/Princess/Maxi drivers swearing at their cars and the endless spin, spin, spin of starter motors. As a 5 year old probably thought this was a special starting technique used on British cars

Painted matt black with a roller, no keys, had to start it with wires, carried a coat hanger to open the door. Welded plates to hold in the front windscreen.
Don't think I even knew where the dipstick was?
Even the bloke at the scrap yard had a good rally round in it.

Hey less Escort bashing please
Not so keen on later models, but wouldn't mind a twin cam MK1

What about mk1 Ford Capris? The early ones aren't worth much but a late 3.6litre (or something like that) with full spec is worth thousands.
Not sure about that, think most valued Capri produced by Ford is Mk1 RS3100. These go for around ?5000-?6000. Jackie Stewert used to own and race one.

I've been pushing mine every morning for the past week until I got the battery tested and ended up getting a new one. Everything back to normal now, it starts on the third turn.My GTI had a bout of refusing to start before Xmas, then the C started running rough and then it refused to start all.

Say what ya like about my bodywork, what was bought as a fun runabout before traveling has turned into an unhealthy love affair….
Nothing better than getting down and dirty on the B roads back from work, hehe.

MK1 Minis!!! (Love the 'old' smell inside em too!)
I've been leaving the BE-EM at home and using the Golf for work lately - it's much quicker/more fun to drive/much easier to get past slow lorries!!

Yeah there is something about the smell inside an older car. Even my Golf has a destinctive smell to it compared to my newer euroblob of a cavalier.

Mk1 or 2 Scirroco? My mk1 starts first time but, the fuel pump when it primes makes a really strange noise, the first buzz is ok the second is a bit weak, i was told its on its way out, anyone?
My fuel pump lasted about 6 months before packing up and the whole time there was a pretty constant buzz. I've heard people run theirs for years with no problems at all but always buzzing.
I think it isn't always a case that it will go - perhaps have a spare ready!! (Recent opinion seemed to be to go for the Bosch one)
