I take my car to work and use the ramps  and mot is also not a problem i just change ramps :y:
The other place i drink lots of t and work is my mates unit i pay rent and have filled it with mk1's and mk1 junk :?
Bert
After having spent all day underneath a car, with 9" clearance, getting covered in fuel, rust and dirt, I wish I had a ramp……..but I work outside, on a sloping and irregular driveway, in the open. At least its behind closed doors (gates) so the local wildlife are kept at bay. I have a marquee which I might put up, if I feel confident it would stay there in the wind.

To be honest Debs, in the 20 months I have had the car, I have never wound down the front windows! I did when I bought it to check all the electrics were working, but never again since! 8O

Walt, all joking aside, I think you're missing out on the 'fun' of Mk1 Golf ownership. Your car never breaks down, never givies problems, and nothings worn out. You can only polish it for so long! Part of the enjoyment is overcoming the tide of time, dealing with little (and not so small) niggles, or doing servicing or other mechanical work, knowing that while you may have spent ?100 on parts, you've saved ?200 on garage bills. There is a pride of ownership in having a fully-working Mk1 Golf which was once a neglected car with lots of faults.

Electric windows??? I don't think flicking a switch counts as mechanical
I don't think it matters. you love your Mk1 as much as we love ours and you're looking after it to stop it becoming a 'neglected' one.
