What's your daily driver?

What's your daily driver?

If like me you keep your Mk1 in the garage for high days and fun, you must have another car for the daily toil? What do you have?

Mine is a little odd in that my Mk1 is totally standard and my daily driver is the modified beast….!

It's an Audi TDI 115PD SE (1896cc Diesel)  Built in May 2000, but it already has a higher mileage than my mk1!

It has the following modifications

AmD Remap 115 bhp > 160 bhp (Torque 210lbft > 260lbft)
Koni Dampers
H+R Sport Lowering Springs (-30mm)
18" RS6 Replica Alloys
RS4 Front Grille
Audi 'S-Line' Badges
6 CD Changer and Bose Sound System + MP3 Jukebox

Still to do…
Milltek Exhaust System
Engine to 200bhp-ish…
6 Speed gearbox (yeah right!!)

Performance according to GPS
Top Speed 136 mph
0-60 8.2 seconds

I'll be driving this to the AGM!

Here it is parked in the drive last summer…

Dream car for day to day use? Ultimately an RS6 Avant I think! Mortgage to be paid first though! V8 Biturbo with 450bhp in an estate car! 8O

Cheers,

Drew.

Must be an A4 thing going on, as my daily driver is an 02 A4 Avant 130 Sport - completey standard of course  :). The Golf being the wolf in sheeps clothing so to speak.

If I could have another car, it would be an RS6 Avant - just to keep the missus and kids happy…… one day  :banghead:

 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S at the moment, fun but it's a ford (and going for yet more repairs)!

will be the Mk1 when it's finished as I'll be giving the ford to the other half… think I might have to invest in a second Mk1 so I can keep 1 standard and modify the other (G60)  :)

I got a couple at the mo,

I've got a '52' reg Merc CLK 320 Avantgarge Cabriolet at the moment. Orion grey leather, Bose sound system, Xenon's, auto wipers, wind-break and is painted in the best colour - Green Black; looks awesom. It'll also do 33 mpg, which is a bonus!

The Pug Rallye below is my usual steed. 167bhp, lightened, 6 speed greabox and 0-60 in 6.9 seconds! Its up for sale too, ?4.1k as i'm getting a company car :(

o :)

Too many to list but 2 x 1982 Golf GTi 1.6 hatches are the main ones

Keeping with the Mk1-type theme of old VAG cars, my daily driver is a 1993 Audi 80 2.0 16v (140bhp)

Great fun because, although it has a nice engine, and came with a comfort pack (nicer trim inside & electric everything), it's not an SE model, so there are no alloys, and there's a factory-fitted tow-bar, so from outside it looks like a real farmer's car (Audi 80 TDI's were very popular with the agricultural community in Ireland  ). With the 16v badge removed (since photo's were taken), no one looks twice, even though it's only a bit slower than a 1.8 Mk1 (9.5sec, 0-60). I'm even considering dropping in a 1.8T eventually…

He He

This is mad.

Weve all got mk1's probably worth around ?3000 on average which we pamper and drive on sundays etc. etc. but to do the commute and weekly shop we take our ?10,000+ daily driver!

im exactly the same, if something happend to it id be gutted so i use a stage 1+ Nissan Skyline GTR32 everday!

My daily drive used to be a Mk3 Gti but with the Mk1 finally hitting the road, we could not afford to keep my two cars and the wifes Pug 206 whilst paying the Mortgage too, so, the Mk3 went and my Daily commute is now tackled in the 1.1 powered Pug.

It's a bit slow and underpowered but it is very economical plus it makes the Mk1 feel that much faster when I take it out for a blast!

She has talked about changing the Pug this year - I am trying to convince her that an A4 Turbo Sport is a good idea, as the S4 is a bit pricey!!!

The daily driver is a standard -98 VW Passat Variant TDI. Will also be kept standard

The second "daily driver" is a modified Audi S2 Avant (estate). Although the turbo is blown :( and it did?nt pass the MOT in december, been standing still since, due to a little mk1 in the garage :D. The Audi has been a bit modified:

Engine:
Larger turbo (capability = 420-430 hp, when not broken :banghead:)
Tubular manifold
3" exhaust
Larger injectors
Bigger IC
RS2 intake (no extra hp, but has "Powered by Porsche" on it :D)
RS2 chip = which give the car about 350hp. Need a remap here to fully take advantage of the turbo.

Chassie:
Koni Sprint, adjustable, all around. Together with H&R coils.
Powerflex bushes in front (rear will be modified later)

Brakes:
Porsche 968 CS front calipers over a 314mm disc.
Steelbraided brake hoses all around
Rear standard

Interior:
RS2 black leather Recaros (electrically semi-adjustable).
Otherwise a complete RS2 interior (except the dials with 300 km/h on the speedo)
Kenwood CD-stereo (anno -99)
Dual amps supplying a 10" woofer and a DLS RC36 front speakers

Exterior:
RS2 front
RS2 mirrors
18" wheels with 225/40 Pirelli Pzero Rosso

A link to some photos. http://www.bostream.nu/imma/s2avant.html

The plan is the get this car and the golf working… and then enjoy some trackdays :).

Daily driver is Clio dCi, lowest powered 65bhp but feels like 100+ petrol powered ponys and trip computers says 58.something mpg. Looked at Polos but they where about ?3K more for same spec/performance once the bells and whistles had been added. Should have been replaced now its 3 but new car fund spent on engagement ring and moving house. Not sure what the chuff I would have replaced it with anyway?

Since I got the Caddy in November I?ve probably done as much mileage in that as the ?daily? car. Just like AL it makes the GTI feel like a rocket and sounds that quiet at tick-over I think it?s stalled. Everything?s relative.

Dream car would be MK1 with later 1.9 Turbo Diesel, in theory quite a straightforward upgrade, without all the electricery of a TDI. MK1 GLS autos in really good nick keep coming up on ebay with one deceased OAP owner and go for little money has no one appears to want a 25 year old Golf with 5 doors and autobox. One of those + a lowish mileage engine out of a wrecked MKIII Golf (the only use for a MKIII???), + a few months in the garage….. A MK1 with enough torque to drive up the side of a house and 50-60 mpg.

So - your "Dream Car", out of all the cars you could possibly have, you'd go for a Mk1 diesel!?!?!?!?  :?  8O

The more you know the less you have to show…..

Agreed a standard MK1 diesel would be unsaleable today, far too noisey, rattley and slow, but a decent spec GLS with a more modern turbo diesel block. Enough power and good MPG all wrapped up in a MK1 shaped package. I'm talking for real daily use not some 250hp denture rattling track beast.

My partner and I use the GTI and C as our daily drivers - what else could I drive? Partner usually does 30 mile round commute in the C everyday. She is looking to buy a mint Rivage or Sportline Cab later in the year for her daily driver 8) .

My ideal daily driver - Lotus Elan Sprint   or if I had to be sensible maybe an MX5.

My Helios Campaign does me fine to and from work everyday.

Would like to have it as a second car but finances don't allow.

Moving closer to work soon so it'll be able to take it easy while I walk or cycle instead.

Bet it can't wait. Could probably do with putting it's feet up for a while!! :D

My life is an endless battle against maturity.
