What Luck????
How lucky was I. Just visisted my local VW dealer to collect some parts for the MK1. What should arrive on the transporter but a red MK5 GTI.
Knowing the Sales Manager well I convinced him that my Mars Red MK1 should be put on show next to the new showroom car just delivered.
With little effort the trade plates were attached to the MK5 and myself a work mate and one of the sales men were off for a drive. Myself behind the wheel. Initial thoughts were that the acceleration was linear but not brutal (new engine with 25 miles on clock!!!), you would not think that it was a turbo. The steering was very good. Direct and almost kart like. Handling was very good with good body control. Firm but not overly so. All in all very nice, well made good level of trim BUT, very sanitised. A typical modern car. Jumped back into the MK1 and realised how much fun you can have in a 21 years old car at far lower speeds.
