what do you think she's worth?

i'm sadly thinking about giving up on my 79 gti due to a lack of skills and time i'm going to have to let her go :(

its a good car not a total basket case like you see on ebay but does need putting back together again, the body and paint are almost perfect except for a small repair on the drivers door and the small rear lights reinstalling(got the parts)
the 1.6 4sp engine and gear box are strong and its minted under the bonnet to look at.
its also got a massive file full of the history of the car including the vag service log and the delivery note dated 10/7/79(t reg)

inside the car is a different story its got a steering wheel and thats about it. i've spent a lot of time and money getting all the correct dash parts and a new wiring loom but i don't have the right seats and it all needs putting together

I could really do with a little advice on a possible value and don't worry this is not the end of me and mk1's, summers coming up might go for a newer cab or something when ive got space for it

Unless you find a collector with all the bits - an untested car, no matter how rare, is worth little more than scrap value.  I've picked up Series 1 Mk1's in similar (and indeed better) condition for less than ?80

Stu, I have some seats coming up for sale if you are interested.

It is worth a lot more than scrap value as you seem to have a solid Series 1 shell with complete history and most of the parts to restore it.

You need to get some pics up if you do decide to sell and put it in the for sale section. You will easily find a buyer for it as Series 1s will always be hot property!

Good luck whatever you decide.

Cheers

Aye - if you can get a set of seats for it and stick it through an MOT (even if it fails on a fwe things) a complete car makes a far better proposition for a buyer than one that is seen as an "unknown".

thanks guys I think your probably right i've spent around a grand and I would rather rip my back fence down and stick it in my back garden as a ornament than sell it for 80 quid

i've got seats but there petrol stripes from a later car that are in really good nick, maybe I need to sell them on.

when the electrics are sorted it should fly through a mot all of the brakes are brand new front and rear done less than a thousand miles and the car was given a full service the day before I took it off the road and it drives perfect

I just need to pull my finger out and get on with it, I just want to drive a golf again its been a year and I drive about 4-5k a month in a escort van that is the slowest car or van I have ever driven(if you think you've got slower i'll race you!

rajan i'll send you a pm talk to you soon
thanks stu

A car in bits, with missing parts, no tax or MoT, is never going to be worth much. Are you serious about selling it and if so, what kind of money were you looking for it?

i reckon u can either 'bite the bullet' and sell it to someone (cheap) who wants it to do it up (gonna be loss here) or make yourself a few quid on the bay in parts :dontknow:
good luck either way mate,
