Think you have had it hard with your Golf?

Renewed the gas shocks all round, recent head rebuild, recent head gasket change with fan and timing belt, front outer CV joints, one inner CV joint, new Avon tyres all round, new fuel pump, rewired the horn directly using an inline fuse (something packed up in the loom). 2 rear wheel bearings, renewed inlet manifold(from scrapper) due to the cluch cable wearing a large gash in the inlet manifold.

Jobs left:
1/door pockets snapped off both side, need another set.
2/rear self rubber supports snapped
3/ fuel line needs sorting for the MOT
4/ bracket for the sun visor snapped
5/ handbrake needs adjusting
6/ inlet petrol neck needs replacing
7/ dashboard bulbs need changing to 2w

Will be working on the R/H track arm and tracking tomorrow.

I want to go out and enjoy myself but my time seems endlessly occupied by my MK1, so other MK1 die hards can take comfort from my moans.

Anyone else had a hard time?

OK owned cabriolet since may, and replaced the following; (all done by myself too!)

New shocks all round
Front wishbones
Steering rack (complete new unit including tie rod ends)
New inner CV joints and inner and outer boots
Brakes all round including discs and drums
Fuel filler neck
Spent hours cleaning engine bay
Pratically re-wired car (electrics were knackered)
lots of tidying and cleaning

Still needs

Tappets adjusting (bit rattly at the moment)
Engine needs major tuning up
Drivers seat needs repairing
Paintwork needs cleaning up
I will get the headlamp washers working!!
Rip in headlining needs repairing
new tyre needed on spare wheel
lots of other minor things.

OK not much compared to other people, but more than I anticipated when I brought the car!!  Oh well, looking forward to the summer when I can drive it with the hood down! :D makes it all worthwhile.

Jeez!! Perhaps we were lucky with our '78 small lamp… OK it looks MINGING but so far we've only had to replace fluids and an air filter. Plus we only paid ?175 for it with an MOT… We've owned it nearly a year now!!Oh, we have just changed the seats for ones that don't smell of wet Collie dog!

But to get it looking nice - the next stage of the plan:

2 new front wings
New bonnet
Tailgate
Paint
Replacement bumpers (chrome ones - hah! some chance! made of unobtainium  )

She may look MINGING but we love her…

NO Golfs at present!!!!:-(
