Series 1 in Suffolk Scrapyard
Been ringing around trying to get a 1600 fuel metering head and came across this. A 1977 T reg Black GTI at Leiston Breakers near Aldburgh, Suffolk. Guy at scrapyard reckons its a bit past it, he was trying to sell it complete for restoration. He has had no luck (I was in a danger of coming away with an unplanned series 1 restoration
) he will be breaking it. Sounds still reasonably complete so might be some good parts. You can call the breakers on 01728 833600.
Cheers

i doubt it,
this guy is a nightmare….. i live near this breakers yard (sort off) and have been there a couple of times. when i first went there it was like finding a aladdens cave a real mk1 treasure chest stuffed full of old golfs and a few gti's.
He wouldn't sell parts let alone the whole car - which he paid ?50 for - he told me he'd been offered ?300 for the small bumpers but wouldn't sell them and even one guy turned up with an artic (not me honest) and offered him a blank cheque for all the mk1 golfs and parts. his plan is to keep them till they are worth even more but they will be rotten well before this. he also puts a lot of stuff on evil-bay for silly money
The T reg GTI is very very rotten but original.
good on you if you can get it but some how i doubt it :?

tryed ringing ther lad all day with noluck  as for keeping the bits until they are worth more , he must be kicking him self then ?as the bits are comeingdown !!
people wont pay for the stuff now and the trend as changed from modding mk1s like danny allens to modding mk3s people just cant or wont pay anymore to get a floor welded in and theres finding a panit shop that will paint old cars as most wont now
there will still be use mad lot here cos were the hard core but them greedy people that have keeped all them mk1 bits are going to finelyget a kick up the ****

here here, theres a guy like that here with a late 1600 on his drive and i see it every morning on my way to work just rotting away. I'm sure he thinks if he waits another year he'll be able to sell his 9 spokes for a hundred quid, it dont matter if tall the tyres are bald!!!

like every thing fads come and go the mk1 GTI will always be a popular car with the hard core followers and vw enthuiast but the tunning gang move for model to model year in year out, todays fashion is tomorrows joke.
