Save This GX PLEASE!

Somebody please save this very tidy Golf GX in a breakers up north. :cry:

I reckon it could easily go back on the road with a nice word to the DVLA.

GX's are such a nice model too!! I would have it myself if I had the space.

If I get time I may go and have a butchers at the car. The scrappie isn't too far from me so if anyone is interested let me know and I will do a spot of research on your behalf.

Can the 'scrapped' marker be reversed by DVLA. I should know this really but haven't been doing much on the vehicle side of my employment recently  ops:

I have just spoken to 'Chris' at the scrappies re this car. Apparently (without seeing it) it is in excellent condition with a small amount of rust on the tail gate. The interior is black (My interest being in the never ending search for brown parts!).
The whole car will be sold for ?250.00 but will have the VIN number chopped out to prevent it going back on the road. Apparwently the seller 'just didn't want it' and scrapped it!!
The 'scrapped' marker can't be reversed according to the scrappie.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will vist on your behalf.

Without an identity it will be hard to MOT it !
Whoever declared that the car has been permanently scrapped (which it clearly hasn't) made a big mistake !!!
I'd be well tempted for ?250, but only if it came with all the tags / chassis number intact. Would fight the cause with the DVLA later ……..

You'd need to fight the cause with the DVLA before you take the car from the yard, as the scrappy will have to remove the VINs before it leaves, or else he can get into big trouble.

If you aren't successful, you might end up with Q-plates (UGH!)


Give it a go though, it looks like a nice car, worth saving complete, rather than just for spares…

hey dano, so is the guy not gonna break it then? i'd like the chrome grill…where abouts is the nearest scrappy to us neway….?

The scrappie where the car is, is located down Kent Street which is off North Road in Preston.

From where you are take Leyland Road, Strand Road, into the town (sorry City). Where you get to the Crown Court on your left at the traffic lights, turn left, down North Road and Kent Street is on the right after  Plumb Centre and before B & Q.

Just had email from scrappy he wants ?300 and it comes with NO identification at all…..everything on the car will be taken off….this is a rolling scrap car….shame…if I had the space it would be worth saving….

If anyone goes to look at it can you check the interior for me. I had a gx same colour and when it was scrapped my dad used the interior in his mk1. Drivers seat now gone so it should be the same interior. He is interested in it if it does get broken.

     Email me pictures of yours, I will take a look at the 'scrappie' and find out how much he wants for the seat and if its in good condition.

How much are you willing to pay? Are you going to Gaydon?

The scrappie is about 5/10 minutes from my house.

Ok Ok, I couldn't resist going to have a look for myself!! Slid out of work to have a butchers!!

The car is/was in pretty good condition. Minimal rust with all the outside and inside trim present…..

However…

Someone has already been at it. The front grill has gone but the 1 fog/ 1 spot lamps are inside. The instrument binnacle has gone but the surround, blower guides/ switch mounting is in the back. The F/N/S door card is off but present (with speaker in pod) and gear knob off but in the back.

I have taken a selection of photos if anyone can host (me being the Forum Photo Dunce) showing various angles.

Kate, the interior is a black and grey check but the drivers seat has the usual small bolster wear on the right hand side. By the looks of it the car will/ is getting broken.

All door cards are in one piece without any holes.
All side trim, black and chrome are present.
The glass is clear.
The engine is complete (for now) but without the battery for safety reasons.

Come on someone host the photos for our viewing pleasure!!!

Yep i've also been to see it, and i've butcherd the grill, n/s door mirror, chrome side trims, ash tray with cig lighter and leather black gear stick cover But i made sure i was carefull taking everything off and left bits inside the car.

As dano says its in good condition, i was gonna source the tailgate but its got a slight dent/rust in it, the bonnet however is MINT

Sunroof is mint, and the seats look good the bumpers have chrome trim but are grey and the rear valance is in good shape too. I wanted the front but its got a few dents. Doors are sweet.

I just went to have a look and the guy said he not gonna seel as a whole so he will break it all…

I might go back and get the rear door handles for mine...
