Review of the cherished MK1 Golf GTI in 2004

Renewed shocks all round, front tyres renewed from poor tracking, tracking adjusted, new fuel pump, rear bearings, new outer CV joints, replaced glass all round, seats replaced by a better set, gearbox replaced, started motor replaced, alternater replaced, leaking sunroof, broken passenger side speaker tray, mileage counter stopped (not a bad thing LOL!), passenger seat rocking, hole appearing in cill and worst of all the engine is only working on 2 cylinders.

Can it get any worse?

Off out to please the other arf.

While mine was in the garage for last winter it had,

A 1900 bottom end fitted, Kent GS2 cam, new wishbones, new ball joints, new cv joints, all new bushes up front, new tyres all round, drive shafts stripped and painted and a few other bits painted. RR set up at stealth, drove it all summer

It is currently back in it's garage having the rear beam removed, will be stripped and repainted, all bushes/arb bushes/brakes replaced.

Cricky!

If I had my time over again I would renew all the parts in one go! Total waste of a life renewing bits every week.

Huh, and everyone tells me its German engineering, all is forgiven BLC

I replaced or refurbished practically everything on mine because it needed it. I had the advantage that I bought it as banger for a few hundred quid and knew it needed a total rebuild. VWs are a bit like religion; you have to believe to make it work. The idea that a 20+ year old car with 10 owners and 200,000 miles is going to be reliable? Start praying.

Over the last couple of years the rear brake compensator and one of the springs have failed, both of which weren?t replaced during the rebuild?? .
