Restoration

Hi all

An honest opinion would be walmly welcomed,

I have uncovered an 81 Gti that has been stored (outside) for 6 years.

The engine starts, there are a few patches of rust on the shell, but nothing too drastic, I dont think there is any rot!!. There interior looks in good nick, nothing a bit of elbow grease could nt sort out.

My question is…..

1. How much is it worth ??? ??

How hard is it to restore, I have very little experience, and how expensive is this going to be (I know that question is like asking how long is a piece of string).

My dads really good with motors, but rubbish at electrics, and I dont mind paying somebody to the stuff I cant.

look forward to your replys (I think…..)

David

stick some pic's up.. everyone will throw there opinions at you then.. is there any history of the car? If it?s just a few patches of rust, that aren?t to much of a problem you could have a good find?

You really need to be sure what you are getting into. Look over the car as well as you can. Do a rough figure in your head as to how much it will cost to get it back on the road again and think of worst case scenario costs too for each bit of the car you look at!

Make sure you look at the , front inner wings at the top of them at the front by the headlights, rear arches, sills, rear valence, front panel, around the windscreen, inside the sunroof channels if it has one. This is where most rust can be found. Check out the restoration section for some pics to see what you are looking out for

Its hard to put a price on a car even with pics.

Good luck, I hope its a nice one.

when i found my mk1 it had been parked on grass for 7 years and in a terible state i managed to get the car for nothing and now a year on spent about a grand on it and more to spend and she'll not be worth a great deal when i'm finished. its a love thing to be honest and the 'i've started so i'll finish'. i thought 6 months ?200 on the road but i uncovered more than i bargained for.  she needed all new brake and fuel lines so check these as well as the fuel fille inside the rear arch peel capets back a little aswell to have a look under neath at the inner sills mine we ok but just with a couple off patches

best off luck matey any ways
