Random fact

I was reading a really old copy of CAR last night. In it was an interview with our favourite Italian car designer, Guigiaro. He was commenting that his designs introduced a lot of new features that were rapidly copied by many other designers, details such as the door/pillar/wing join on the Isuzu Piazza. He said that the rear tailgate on the Mk1 Golf was a new design - the way it's full width across the rear of the car, and not surrounded by pillars - and it saved VW a whole pressing in the contruction process.

Geeky, but interesting I thought!

I think the boot design is good as it overlaps the sides. Odd that they didn't consider doing the same with the bonnet too. It would actually be better from a rust protection point of view as it would funnel water away from the inside of the car.

Wouldn't have looked as good though.

Cheers,

Drew.
