is a dizzy off a 1.6 GTI the same as off a 1.8?

Looking at ETKA it would seem electronic ignition versions are the same for 1.6 and 1.8 engines...

Isn't the vacuum advance different? 2 pipes for 1600 - 1 for 1800?

That's true but the base distribitor is the same i think.  Not 100% on this though

swap the vacuum units over…..easy enough,
bear in mind that very early 1.6 dizzies have points (like mine) and ones that are approx late 80 to 81 have a different plug for the electronic ign.. the early plug is more oval and the later ones 81 on are more square.
