Oak Green Mk1????

Hi all, I've just picked up this little beauty………..

Apart from the guy that I bought it from, who'd only had it for about 6mths, it's a one owner car. As I bought it in the dark, I assumed it was Lhasa green. However, I spoke to the original lady owner owner on the phone who told me that it is infact Oak green………….. When I saw it in the light for the first time today, it sure is a lot darker that Lhasa green  :dontknow:

The original owner told me that she bought it from a dealer, just around the corner from the factory where it was built in Germany back in 1983. It has green tinted glass, factory fitted sunroof, green stripped seats and it has the little clips in the back to hold the seat belts into place - I've never had these on any of my other Mk1's.

Have I stumbled across a rare GTI, a German spec GTI or something else?

Spence  :)

Cheers mate…………… I plan to run it as it is for now and iron out any problems that may occur. Then, I want to pull it apart and restore it to it's former glory.

"German" supplied mk1s came in a few variations in colours, my friend had a copper bronze metalic mk1 gti that came over from germany in right hand drive, very rare colour and i have only ever seen 2 of them! he got it from a guy near brands hatch in 1996, i remember it well as on the drive back in it i nearly missed the Bluebell hill junction off the M20 and cut a lorry up!! only to realise it had Gabrieli Tarquini & Tim Harvey Honda BTCC written on the side of it!!! how embarrasing! but like your oak green mk1 i have only ever seen one of those before now aswell,  the rear seat belt retainers my mates had these aswell, on the inside rear 1/4`s  just below the rear window rubbers, everything else was the same as i recall, it had a funny chasis number aswell, think it still began EW though or maybe FW cant remember now

It will say on your V5 if your car was a personal import. On section 3 special notes, it would say:

WAS REGISTERED/USED OVERSEAS. DECLARED MANUFACTURED (year)

And on section 4, B will have the date of 1st reg and B.1 1st reg in UK, on mine these are the same, I assume it was personally imported but as a 'new' car.

I'll TAX it tomorrow and start having some fun in it…………………
