Nightmare weekend

Set off saturday morning for a weekend of R&R at BVF , got in me mk2 vr (its show debut) halfway there the radiator bursts - wait for AA man who's very nice and transports us home , so its now 11 am so we load all the stuff into the back of the 1 and set off again 20 miles down the road a strange knocking sound gets worse , turn round knocking sound is now really bad , 0 oil pressure - bugger 1 mile from home a big end lets go , oil all over the place       , walk the last mile to get me girlfriends Rocco and tow the one home , give up on the whole idea of BVF and go back to bed . Add to all this the fact ive woken up this morning with a really nasty cold and i'm really starting to think someones trying to get to me . Suppose i'd better dust off the engine crane again then . This must be the worst weekend anyone wanna make me remember why i drive old volkswagens , why is it that i'd rather spend all my hardearned cash on a 23 year old golf when i could of bought a mk4 or summit equally as boring for the same money ?

i've had a bad weekend too. i am doubting the whole idea too.  :cry:

I think its catching, I set off yesterday morning to look for a new car
(daily driver) and thought it would be nicer driving around in the
Cabrio with the weather like it is……….
MFA dissapeared, temperature went off the scale, water was pouring from
god knows where, and the oil light was flashing like a set of
christmas lights.

luckily we were close to home, so limped her back.
And I gave up on looking for a new car too.

How about this:

If your boring modern car went wrong you would be paying ?100 an hour to get it fixed and parts are expensive too.

It's definitely catching

Went to Bluewater shopping centre on Saturday, about 25 miles from where I live, picked up a friend on the way. car drive faultlessly there, and most of the way back untill just after I dropped my friend off when it started messing around. Couldn't get her to go about 60mph, was spluttering and almost cutting out at times. Diagnosed it as a faulty fuel pump (owing to really really loud buzzing that sounds like a hornets nest coming from my fuel pump)

Why did it have to pick this month to go wrong when I have no spare cash!

While you doubt your old car just make sure you properly sleep on it before you decide to get rid of it or whatever

You know you'd hate yourself if you sold it to buy a mk4 :wink:

Yeah but people dont wave at you or come up to you and say how cool your car is when filling up with Petrol when you drive you a MK 4.

Get the VR back on the road for the sound and get that MK I fixed.

Two weeks ago, I was getting ready to spend two weeks touring around Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria in the Cab except it never got there because I smashed the rear light cluster on our neighbours new Freelander (my costs-?300 his ?1300 and he has just a scratch)

So I took the Mk2 instead, and three days into the trip and I am following a line of cars through a set of road works when the moron roadworker driving a crane swings his jib across the road. I swerve and hit the curb bigtime, thus ripping off the front skirt and wheelarch. The German police wer not interested as there were no injuries and matey the moron would not give me his name, rank and number.

The comestic repair was effected by the next town's VAG dealer within 20mins but four days later we had the choice of more 40+ heat plus tropical thunderstorms and floods so we came home.

On the return journey a low buzzing started, it got worse but the old girl made it back. Took her down to the local VAG specialist to be told that the impact had od'd the wheel bearing however a phone call that afternoon told me that a check to the rest of the offside suspension had revealed a large crack in the subframe-the repair bill ?600+.

I traded the car at the local VAG group dealer for a new Skoda Octavia.

There is a good side though, if I hadn't clipped the Freelander I would have taken the Mk1 Cab  and instead of ruining the winter hack, I would be looking at major damage to my beloved Cab.

Cheers people its comforting to know that other people have this kind of luck too . Ive got a rad on order for the vr and its looks like the mk 1 will have make do with a 1.8 till i can get the 2.0l rebuilt . The engine in the mk1 has been out more that its been in , so i think a standard 1.8 will do just so that i can enjoy driving it again ! .
