Magazine Articles (again)

Whilst digging out some info for TC (newbie) on magazine articles, I came across a couple that were pretty good.

Autocar 7 August 1996 ran a 20 page free supplement on 20 years of the GTI! - Good read.

Volswagen Audi Car ran a 28 page GTI special in the May 1994 issue. Some of the pages were of course Mk2s.

I do not possess a quality scanner and there are a lot of pages. Any ideas out there to get them on the site?

Interestingly the VW Audi Mag article didn't mention EW chassis numbers in their piece on what is a Campaign? Just goes to show it is all very misunderstood.

MK1 Golf GTi Campaign:Alpine White, Vauxhall Omega MV6, Alpina B10 3.3 Touring, Dolomite Sprint, MG ZT V6, Volvo T5 R estate  6C2B5B6F-1CA5-44CA-A93C-6B7F5206CD7F.jpeg

Strictly speaking VW Audi mag are right. EW chassis numbers only signify a 1984 Model Year vehicle (any VW in fact), they do not mean "Campaign". The Campaign special edition vehicles are as far as i know identified by an option code (W64 I think but I do not have a Campaign to check this). This option code was geared automatically when GTis with UK destination code were ordered. This point happened before August '83, hence some DW (1983 Model Year) Campaigns exist.

adolf,

have emailed my address.

I can scan them and create PDF's which I guess Drew can make available on the site.

I have been collating a number of scans, videos and info with the aim of producing a CD for club members.  Maybe we could offer this as a new member freebee once we get organised and start charging subs (incentive to join rather than just use the forum type thing).

Soooo, if anyone else has any scans, documents, files they want to send my way I'll happily coordinate this.  I can convert VHS to DVD or AVI and DVD to DVD or AVI also.

Please send everything recorded if by mail cos RoyalMail seem to have a habit of loosing stuff at the mo

I've just had a really quick look through some magazines I had nearby, and I have found the following:

* CAR December 1982 : Golf GTI 1.8 newcomer review
* CAR June 1982 : Giant Test - Renault 9 GTL vs Peugeot 305GL vs VW Jetta C (do we cover Jettas here?)
* A one-off magazine from October 1985, called "GOLF - Mild to Wild". Features buyers guides, a feature on the Street Machine Mk1 Golf custom car, the 4th Woerthersee meeting (754 cars went!!), racing and competing in a Golf (mainly Mk1).

Want any of it scanning? What size? etc etc

I'd love to see the 1.8 Newcomer bit, haven't got that one!

No Jetta's sorry!

Cheers,

Drew.

Here you go… 192k JPEG:

I think it's clean enough to read, but the scanner I have here isn't great. Interesting to note that the GTI in the pictures is a 5 door one, was this a europe-only thing? I've never seen one before!

I found the scans I did a while back of what claims to be the first full road test of the Golf, they are here:

Ahhh, this is good timing I hadnt seen this thread and was about to attempt to upload some articles I just scanned:

- Auto Express August 2004: the 'greatest cars of all time' article where the Golf Wins (two page images)

- Auto Express November 2004 (this weeks!): 'living legends' comparison between the mk5/1 Golf GTIs. (Two pages images). (the whole article includes comparisons between 40 quality old/new versions of cars such as the minis, fiesta ST/XR, , Porsche 911s, Fiat Pandas etc but i've only scannen the Golf relavent bits)

Also have (Pilfered from other websites no doubt so you prob already have them)

- ClassicCars Feb 2002 Buying guide for mk1 GTI (example featured is a Mars Red '83 YPA87Y, Tim Votier) (4 page images)

- VW&Porsche 1980! A full guide to the VW motorsport rally mk1, with spec and guide modifications etc with tons of images (10 page images)

- Someones compilation of a word doc, an article from VW motoring and a letter from 'The Golf'…all the details for mk1 16V conversion. (6 page images, one doc)

I was going to wack them up onto here but the images are too big.

any interest/use? I've got BB which seems to send stuff fairly quickly if anyone wants any of it. (but receive speed is rubbish  )
