Is this recession starting to kick in?
I work in the building trade and in the last couple of months work seems to be drying up was wondering if anyone else either in the building trade or any other field is feeling the squeeze a bit.
The phone just ain't ringing as much as it was, if this Carry's on it could be goodbye to luxury items, don't worry the golfs safe the wife will have to give up buying flowers, chocolates, shoes etc.

Same as for me mate
I do bathrooms, not your cheapo B&Q ones, good quality ones, but used to get a phone call, maybe everyday, then this year its started to wind down, now I'm lucky if it rings once a week..
Starting to get worried..
Might have to get a day job!!!

Its not just the building trade, I work for a contract cleaning company and they have reduced spending and making people redundant in parts of the bussiness to increase profits! More like to weather the in-coming storm!!!
They reckon summer we will all start feeling the worst of it!!!
Lets hope the sun comes out!

Its always the same at this time of year…. too many credit card bills = nobody in pubs having a good time.
Still, I work in the 'crime' industry and business is ALWAYS brisk!!!!
Some days I wish the phone would STOP ringing, especially at 4pm when I've just put my jacket on to go home!!!

I just worked a whole set of shifts from wednesday to saturday and not a sausage from the pubs and clubs, and i work one of the bussiest areas in the country!!! with 4 nightclubs in close proximity and about 200 pubs!!
nobody is spending anything they dont have to at the minute……..
That said i just bought a new "art deco" bathroom and a corrado  so its not all bad

I work in manufacture of tarpaulins and covers, we normally go quiet from the week before christmas until the 3rd week in January, this year we went quiet from the first week of December and even now the orders are only trickling in….just enough to keep us occupied but not the usual first come first served stuff :dontknow: . Luckily we have a ongoing contract with BAE which keeps some good money coming in the coffers, but the bread and butter work aint happening much.

Im just thrifty and spend wisely  think about it, if you buy stuff in January ( when traditionaly people are cautious or skint!) you can take advantage of said skint people or the sales to bag a bargain

There is No "I" in team…..but there is a ME

my nephew is a roofer and he has plenty of work on also, which isnt surpising as we get extreme weather always damaging roofs and the roof isnt something you can put off , like a new kitchen or bathroom etc, but like everyone else in the building trade sooner rather than later you will be affected by the number of polish./eastern block workers who have undercut the market so much in the last 3/4 years. as a chippy i have noticed the work being taking more and more by this foriegn workers and with a recession coming and a slowdown in the housing market i cant see it getting any better

A downturn in the economy is on the cards, its just started IMO, with fuel bills prices rising along with council tax, and income static things arn't looking good. The wake up call was the Northern Rock story. A cut in interest may help in the short term, but the trouble is borrowing is far too high.
