If you're unsure, insist on a test drive before you buy. Brakes are okay - its a light car, and in any case they have servo assistance. Steering is okay too.

Price depends on condition, also its a rubbish time to try sell a car, so would ideally need to see. Beware the glossy respray over half-done bodywork/rust/welding etc.

Paul's right I'd worry that it's had a respray yet they only want ?900… is it a cabby or tin top?  Is it a campaign?

Definitely test drive it and make sure there's no knocking or pulling to any side etc… check everything.  If you then think you might take it spend a few quid and get it HPI checked.  It may have been accident damaged either recorded or not (hence check everything for dents, bends etc).

For a mint mk1 like you said it is… that's seriously cheap… and recently resprayed…. hmmmmm I'd be wary…. test drive it by all means but I'd wonder why it's so cheap… does he need cash or something tangeable like that… what's his reason for selling up?

As above, really need to check the car properly, ie in the flesh, not on the internet. ?900 is about right for a superficially done up car, which will have underlying issues which will need sorting out in the long run.

I paid ?500 for mine and it was a bit of a wreck - lots of welding later, its a good car. Similarly, the next one was ?800 and it has rust in similar areas - some areas are worse, some are better. On both cars, the paintwork itself is sufficiently good not to need a respray quite yet.
