I sold an aeriel to someone on here....

And they say they never received it. At the same time i also posted some a piller trims to Mike at Dubparts and hereceived them with no problem. As the items were of low value i just put them both in a jiffy and posted them, now the guy i sent the aeriel is saying he didn't get it…. has anyone had a similar experience on here, not sure how i can resolve it other than giving the guy his money back which then obviously leaves me out of pocket.

Cheers

Paul

I stupidly never kept the receipts because i didn't forsee a problem so i guess i'll have to cough up. To be honest i don't know anything about the guy, just that i sent two almost identical packages from the post office and one got there and one apparently didn't… i guess i'll have to cough up and hope their being honest about it

Always keep your postage receipts mate , I do fair bit of trading on ebay and Royal Mail are shocking lose a lot more items than you would imagine, even "lost" 2 lots of special deliveries I have sent recently, then they make you jump through a lot of hoops to get any compensation :banghead:

Just because one got there there's no guarantee the other will! Come on mate, I'm not being funny but no postal/delivery service is perfect and if you expect it to be then you're having a laugh.

Your best bet is if you're worried about delivery send it 'signed for'. If it's low value then for the love of God keep the receipt so you can at least lodge a claim.

At the end of the day, don't sell or buy if you don't think you can trust the buyer r the seller!

I can honestly see a time when we have to place a rule whereby only fully paid members can sell or buy on here and if you want to you'll ave to place a £50 bond before you can sell/buy.

It's not just you but we're getting far too much of this and there's nothing much we can do about it except to advise people to use common sense.

You take a risk when you post…

If it is low value and you send it without the requirement of a signature, be prepared for dishonest buyers to tell you they didn't recieve it and refund their money to protect your rep.

I recently sold my Wolfsburg steering wheel. It went via ebay, but to a member here.
I coughed up £15 to have it tracked and insured, just incase.
Like has been said, things just go missing. If my buyer told me he didn't recieve it and there was no proof of delivery, then I would have no choice but to refund him. I didn't fancy being over a ton out of pocket if it went missing, so had a compensation value added, just incase…

You can obtain proof of posting for anything (and it costs no extra) and it covers you up to something like (can't remember exactly the figure but) £40. You can buy extra insurance if the item is slightly higher value.

Just one thing to beware of - I'm not suggesting its happened here but something to be aware of - there is the "item not arrived" fraud. The fraudster buys something he probably wants, then a week or so later once its arrived, says its not arrived, the seller then is coerced into refunding them, and can't claim back the money because they forgot to get proof of postage. Of course, getting a delivery signed for breaks this fraud, but it costs more. You could insist all your items are signed for, but many buyers won't want to pay over the odds for postage.

I buy lots of little bits & bobs off of eBay and I'm happy enough that first or second class post will get me the item. Most parts companies have bulk deals with couriers, so their parcel rates are bearable, compared to if a private individual wants to send a (tracked) parcel.

It's just a matter of the learn by your mistakes thing but a refund is probably fair. Just remember to save the post reciept next time… hindsight is a wonderful if not cruel thing!  :)

I have had issues in the past where people claim not to have received something and I haven't been able to prove otherwise. SO, I now send everything 1st class recorded, unless it's a bulky item and then I use a courier that provides tracking. If payment is taken via Paypal then you are expected to provide full tracking. If you sell an item on ebay, take payment via paypal yet fail to send the item using a trackable service then you leave the door wide open to unscrupulous buyers. Paypal will always settle dispute claims in favour of the buyer, unless you can prove the item was delivered. GOLDEN RULE is always keep your proof of postage.

You wouldn't believe the amount of parcels etc that are left on our doorstep without us signing

I'd give it another week before refunding the money, the buyer may not be trying to rip you off and it may have got caught up in the post.

There are a lot of delays in the postal system at the moment due to the Census going out to every household. The fact that it is going to every household means there are heavy delays in built up areas, which might explain why one item got to its destination quicker than the other has.

Get a claim form from the post office and try your luck. I had a parcel go missing without any proof of postage and although I didn't get a refund for the value of the lost item, I did get the equivilent of the postage I paid refunded in the form of stamps.

So when you claim, just make sure that you overestimate the postage costs totry and soften the blow of them losing the item
