I HAD A CRASH!!!
Regrettably I was involved in an accident back in Oct 09 and wrote off my BMW 325is. The worst bit is, I wasnt insured at the time!
It was a moment of stupidity as my Golf wasnt running and my GF needed to get to the train station… Anyway long story short, its written off and I was prosecuted by the Police…
I was contacted by the other party in the accident and I quickly admitted blame and paid £150 to cover her policy excess and some phone calls to her insurers.
At the court hearing I was ordered to pay a further £300 in compensation to the other party in addition to the fees and points and fixed penalities…
That was all back in December and since then I thought it was behind me and I could move on and learn from it… however, I have today got a letter from the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau) informing me that the other party has made a claim and they want me to admit fault for the accident in writing within 14 days!
I am consulting legal advice at present but feel that I have more than paid for the accident, which I might add did not involve any injuries, so what is this woman claiming for and does she have a leg to stand on?
Any advice/thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks.

No idea why it's being revisited. She may be trying to re-insure and the new insurers want written proof that it was a non fault accident on her behalf :dontknow: . I would have thought that this would have been cleared up in court though.
Two weeks to admit fault or what happens? You get taken to court where they say "yes he admitted fault last year"… seems a bit strange and pointless to me. I don't understand that mate and think you need more info as to what it's all about. Does the letter explain this?

No its weird, the letter just states the name of the woman I hit as the claiment and says for me to reply within 14 days, not threat of legal action if I dont reply. She stated in the police report that she was unijured, so I cant see how she is claiming for injuries, and the MIB is usually used as a last resort for compensation if I had hit and run for example, but I didnt and admitted blame to the police and her and have already been punished! bit worried still…

Are you sure it is legit? I'd either phone the MIB and find out what it's about (write everything they say and evedrything I say) or seek legal advice. I can only think she's put a claim in after the court ordeal.

You can not be taken back to court etc…. you can not be comitted of the same offence twice , simple.
Its either a clerical error, or as mentioned, she is trying to re-insure and needs confirmation that
her last claim was not her fault. I dont think her new insurers can contact you (Legally), so it would
be done through the MIB. Ring them and find out, but its nothing to worry about……………. .

Unfortunately, you can be taken to court for the same thing. Once for the criminal element and once to answer a civil claim.
She may not be looking for compensation.
Because she had to claim from her insurance to repair her car, that will have an effect on her renewal. So they might be persueing you to reclaim the cost of the repair to her car. That way her insurance wont be out of pocket and she will regain her no claims discount.
Some times the MIB will pay to repair damage caused by uninsured drivers. The money is taken from a central pot which is made up from contributions made from a percentage of everyone's insurance premium. Hence why insurance is so expensive now.
It could just be the MIB trying to recover their cost's.
