How many people are still searching the old forum?
It's taking quite a bit of our diskspace allowance you see, and it would be good to be able to archive it at some point.
I won't do it until people are happy we've got sufficient content here, but I'd be interested to know how many people are still searching it regularly.
Cheers,
Drew.

Actually - I've been using it a fair bit for searching back for the fuelling issues, plus the stuff on the MFA / speedo cable / electrical stuff.
Personally I wouldn't mind getting hold of a copy in either text based format or some kind of database extract. I know its a bit cheeky to ask this, but any chance of a DB extract that I can load up into a local copy of MySQL or similar.
Alternatively I don't mind sifting through some of the threads and pulling out some useful ones that maybe could be added to the FAQ section. In particular I was thinking about ones like the horn diagnosis and some of the common electrical "gotchas".
I am about to setup a local MySQL installation on a spare LINUX server I have at home - any chance of an extract of the old forum in a form I could load onto that (I have about 20Gigs free disk space on that machine).
In the end though as long as its safely archived, I guess a lot of the questions will crop up again and we can answer them in the new forum so its probably not a big deal 8)
Cheers,
Chris

Drew - is the original Campaign register forum still live somewhere? I remember you posted a thread about it on the old forum with a link but I've not been able to find it.
I can remember Crasher posting a possible fix for the 99mpg MFA problem that I want to try out but cant remember what needs to be done.
Cheers,
Ross

I guess ideal is (I think as Chris mentioned) that we look through for any good threads/how to's etc and then save and remove the rest?
I guess size is huge but if not perhaps burn to CD's and we can all buy a copy?!
By the way, like the new emoticons!!
:notworthy: :cheer: :dontknow:
Just testing!!

It's interesting to look at the size of the two forums actually…
The Campaign Register always seemed pretty busy to me, but only had 437 registered users and 9920 posts after over two years of operation.
The Mk1 Owners Club has already got 610 users and 5236 posts in under three months! 8O No wonder our database size is rising fast!
Cheers,
Drew.

Drew - I meant the forum before the old one! The one that didnt have much in the way of graphics at all, just a kind of tree structure to it!

Hmmm, I haven't seen that forum for a while. I'm not sure if it still exists. Can anyone remember where it was. I think it was an ezboard.com affair as I recall.

Ha ha!! I've found it… 3rd time lucky!
Here's the link:
http://www.boards2go.c…/board.cgi?&user=campaign
Maybe its worth adding this to the links section. Soon there will be a section of this site containing the history of the mk1 golf owners club and not just the car!

Y'all
There has been a recent tendency for "paper culls" at the establishments at which I have worked in the last 45 years or so….now everybody (and his dog" is re-inventing the wheel yet again 'cos the dicumentation doesn't exist any more. Maybe some should have been trashed but there is still a lot of quality and useful stuff created earlier by us olde timers.
The moral of this story is Not to bin it AT ALL. If its downloaded onto a CD, I would buy a copy…you could even have copies for sale at the meets. I also support the idea of trawling the olde site to extract the more useful stuff for the Knowledge Base but someone is going to have to work on this one….work that would be highly appreciated however.
Please keep it accessible if you can…don't mind a wip-round to accomplish that either
Cheers

I'm happy for someone to download and burn to CD for sale at the shows if we can make it somehow 'easily interactive' for people to use (i.e. stick the CD in the drive and up pops the 'database'. Any cd-db wizards out there?
Likewise, is any one interested in rifling through the old forum and cut 'n' pasting the best bits into the archive here? Much kudos will be due… :notworthy:
