Help...... arch rolling tool needed!

I've had no joy in the bodywork section of the forum so I thouht I would try here (please don't move me)

When there is just me in the ride is great and does not scrub . I had 4 other people in her last night ouch ……..  half way down the road  i had to tell them to get out and walk ops:  as it just was not happening.

Right for me to keep my friends I need to roll some steel!

I've done some shopping around and found that Frost sell an arch-rolling tool for ?225. As I only need to do this once I was wondering if it is possible to rent these. I don't want to resort to shaping the arches with a hammer and a piece of wood  8O and would like to avoid dropping it in at a body shop. It's much cheaper doing it your sen and more fun!

Any ideas….. has anybody got one I could borrow???

what size wheels are you running?

7X15 ET 29 mm

Kins, I am curious - how much is your car lowered?
Mine is lowered 30mm and I have not had any trouble (that I am aware of)

Im sure with that wheel size all you will have to do is trip the plastic on the arches back a bit and slightly fold the lip on the arch up with a rubber mallet, just make sure the arch is sealed well behind the lip. Only need to have the ip rolled back flat if you are running very low or excessively wide. When i had 7 x 15 et25 wheels i could take 4 people in the car withought the wheels catching and my car was quite low on coilovers

I've only just started playing with the coilovers.
I've set it up so there is 50mm of thread left on all corners. Not sure how you work out how low it is from standard. Any ideas?

How low??….I can just about fit my fingers in between the wheel and the arch at the rear. It makes swooshing noises as the air passes through the gap when you bounce her  I think she looks spot on at this height and is just about ok as an every day driver if she did not scrub at the rear when laden. I've tried gently persuading the arches out but with no reward. I think the rolling tool is the best way forward.

kins the problem lies with the et of your wheels. your et should be 35-38 any less than 35 and they will catch the arch when the car is lowered. also if you do roll the arch were will the arches screw to?.you will just have to mess around with the height of your suspension till you get a happy medium. hope it all works out

you can make your own arch rolling tool, never tried it myself, its in one of the old golf mags, uses vw jack and clamps to wheel, i aint got a scanner tho but can post it you

The answer is simple!! Put some really tiny wheels on it!! Maybe some off an old mini or something similar!! This will in turn get your car even lower and prevent the rubbing all in one!! Also no need to spend all that money on that arch tool! Should have asked me sooner!

Thanks tommo320, but lowmk1 has lent me a home made arch roller. It's as you describe made out of a jack…. looks like it should do the trick. Big up lowmk1 and the rest of the NWM! 8)
