Global warming……..

We have only been keeping "accurate" weather records for
approx 200 years, so anything before that is pure sceptisism, bar
geological evidence, core samples etc..
The earth has had ice ages/ heat waves lasting thousands of years.

A few thousand years ago, England was joined to france by a lush forest
and open grassland, its now full of water.

100 years ago, you could not breathe fresh air due to the smog, of
coal fired mills, tanning factorys, etc.. etc.. .

Yes, temperatures have increased, but on the grand scheme of things
long after we have gone it will even its self out, and it will just be
another blip in the life of the Earth…………..

and I hope it continues, as I have not had the roof down this week

Well said.

Forgot to say you that you all need to read "State of Fear" By Micheal Crichton. Fiction in the narrative but load of referenced scientific studies/data to put doubt on the theory (yes it is not fact) of global warming.

It may well be overhyped and used as a tool by politician to keep the population in fear……….it's easy to dismiss it saying it just part of a natural cycle, but there's nothing wrong with people having a greener attitude. Recycling, energy saving in the home, using renewable energy, not destroying the earth's carbon sinks, sustainable forestry surely these are all good things?? :dontknow:

I think there is little doubt among the majority of the scientific community that human activities have affected climate, so I ticked the first box. But there is a huge amount of uncertainty about what the consequences might be.

It's definitely politically influenced though.  The media emphasises adverse consequences becuase it makes better news.  And as someone who works in an environmental science department, a huge proportion of our research income relates to climate change, so there is a lot of vested interest in making sure this money keeps flowing!

yeah - what goes around comes around - sure does.  I can remember the last "climate change crisis" - ice sheets were going to sweep the world - London was doomed to be a frozen wasteland - we must do all we can to warm the world  - as a matter of urgency - even one or two degrees is critical!

The current "crisis" is nothing more than chicken-little-politics back on the agenda - "the skies are falling the skies are falling" - and it's all rubbish promoted by the same collection of charlatans who gave us the ice age crisis of  20 years ago.

There is an entire industry built around this scare mongering:  the promoters of which are determined to exploit it and the politicans are determined to use it as the moral high ground to justify a new infrastructure of taxation.

It's a complete load of old goats cheese

I can't wait for global warming.  I would love to have water cover half of Kent, massive palm trees in suffolk and t-shirt wearing in November.  You keep on using 4x4's its the only way forward

The planet's been warming up since the last ice age.

Still doesn't excuse todays throw-away society and the fact that oil's only going to last a matter of decades so should be conserved and not wasted.

I am shocked that so many of you believe this to be hype !!  8O

There are many things which are "hype" designed by the government to keep an orderly and"fearful" society - global warming is not one!

In fact with reference to global warming the possible outcomes are so overwhelmingly mind blowing that i would be really surprised if anyone in government or the supposed scientists could actually get there head round it…seeing as they struggle with basic principles.

As some of you have said the earth will adapt and survive but only after it has rid itself of the parasite known as man

Anyway I have said my piece now I got some corn to chew and some trees to hug ….peace!

''There are many things which are "hype" designed by the government to keep an orderly and"fearful" society - global warming is not one! ''

so you dont think there is maybe a connection, with the oil grabbing wars our governments are pursuing and the constant 'use less oil' cos of global warming message?
