Just seen this
http://www.golf1-ig.de/index.php
All in German but there's plenty of photos and original brochures (in German)

Looks like one of the late development cars that was submitted to be type-approved but got rejected as the surface area for the brake and indicator lights wasn't large enough..

Too many to list but 2 x 1982 Golf GTi 1.6 hatches are the main ones

Sehr interessant...
…or rather very interesting! A boon if you can understand a bit of German.
"Mitgliederfahrzeuge" is well worth a click - images of all the members' cars.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Square Small lights look like they're from a mk2
Sure I've seen these before and they were referred to as postal lights - something to do with VW using them on a postal vehicle in the 70's???
Cheers

Is is a pre-production car not the postal lights. The postal or "postie" lights were fitted to German Postal Services vehicles, base Golf and L models. They are Series 1 lights without reversing lamp and are fitted on my '76 L as standard.
I am in contact with the owner of this site to arrange an International meeting between our clubs, strictly limited to Mk1 Golfs only. Stay tuned…..

Just think of the parking spaces you could fit into! Seen a pic somewhere on net (UK car I think) of a MK1 with gull-wing doors! 8O
