Favourite wheels for Mk1?
I have a Mk1 Golf clipper in red and it has some Polo Sport rader wheels on it at the minute as they were on it when I bought it in September. I have loved the car for many years and I saved up lots of dosh and splashed out.I feel like the luckiest 21 year old in the world, although the insurance quote knocked me down a peg or two.
Anyway, I have limited funds and would like some opinions of what wheels I should put on my Mk1, pictures would be nice and a rough price guide too?
Thanks.

Hi - well my favourite ever wheels for a Mk1 have to be BBS RS (the proper 3-piece jobs, not the RM's), but they're expensive ! On a budget, I think the VW Sebring alloys as fitted to some Corrado's and Golf Rallye really suit the Mk1 shape, esp. with 45 profile tyres, and can be had cheaply. Just my personal taste - everyone will like something different !

I have a set of BBS RS001''s on my 1982 Mk1, they were got from www.schaulies.com they are a class wheel. I think a set of BBS RS001's in black with flat caps would look the dogs on a red clipper Mk1

Before you choose the style, you must decide whether you optimise for show or ride and handling or a compromise. The suspension ride height and how much time you have to clean them are also critical factors.
Only then can you choose the style from what sizes are available.
I am with Mark on his favourites, especially for tin tops. For a cab, the original Rivage Fuchs are unbeatable IMO (styling, ride, VW wheels and easy to clean). They are timeless and add value to your car.

I like Ronal turbo phase 1's. I'ld stretch some 165/50 R15 Toyo T1 rubber on.
Just think they look right on the car. Getting quite a common sight on Mk1's at the Mo.
Timeless. 8)
Rude.
That's my plan any how!

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

I think the Mk1 always looks good on BBS rims splits or single piece but I've got Momo Arrows for mine.
