Mine did, but it was seized when I got it, so I replaced it with a 1300.

My Golf C still has its 1093cc lump in it 8) . Don't think they're that rare, although lots of 1.1 mk1's have had 1.3 blocks stuck in them by now.

Think the old 1.1 gets a bit of unfair stick. Mines standard apart from a weber replacment carb. the carb transformed the engine. Now not that much slower than my mates standard 1.3 and regular 36-7mpg, I'm happy :D

Not rare as such but I would say that they have a very low survival rate compared to GTIs and Cabriolets. I can't honestly remember when I last saw a clean original example. 6 yrs ago when I was refurbing my GTI lots of the bits came from 1100 and 1300 Golfs in scrapyards for relatively minor rust or mechanical problems, no one wanted to save a lowly Golf C. :(

What about Dubboys blue series 1? :)

Probably because 1.1 and 1.3's lost their value quicker than GTI's/cabs and got sold on as cheap runarounds. Would have taken took a lot more abuse over the years and owners probably took less pride and care in them  .

Mines not that bad

…apart from glass sunroof, some stone chips and a bit of rust of the rear corners. Could also do with some better front seats, but can't find any good ones that match, another sign they weren't looked after :banghead:

Origionaly i craved for a GTi, its the golf to have   but 17 yr old didnt go down well with insurance :(  so i was forced onto the small engine models. funnily enough i have gained an immense ammount of respect for them, more so than the GTi, for their less common ness and character - and they still run!!

A credit to the privious owners too for keeping them going (both of mine granny owned from new) and still piling hundreds of pounds into them through the 90's when the majority were going to the scrapyard :(

I dont think there is a LOT u can do the the engine itself, but i do run a weber carb on mine, still with standard air filter. it is suprisingly pokey for a 1.1 :D

oh yeah, as for the rareness there was a 1.0L which are few and far between.
