despair...!! Does anyone else ever feel like selling!!

Hi folks,

Been having a total nightmare with my first ever mark 1 ever since buying her. So far…

New distributor
New ignition amp
New fuel line
New cam seal

Since early May

It's really starting to dent my enthusiasm!

But she is beautiful and does look great lowered…

Please reassure me it won't always be like this!

Don't worry, it's when you start changing things because you can get a better condition one or that'll make it look better when the original works but doesn't look the best. That's when you need to worry. Keep it up mate, best hobby in the world :mrgreen:

Yes. Must admit, done a project once and someone helped themselves to it. Did a replacement but its rather deflating as no two golfs are alike and the one ive got has caused more heartache than I care to mention. But on the whole it does get a lot of praise from old and young alike and it helps to keep you going!

try a leaking sunroof and various other lumps of rust when your a bit of an OCD cleaner and want it looking pristine but are nowhere near being able to afford a strip down n respray and having work to do on my old focus aswell before i can sell that.

Try a New cam belt which was planned but then the carb failing and costing near ?300 for a new one!!

thats nothing, mates into old minis and BL iron (or should that be Be Hell??)

Spends all winter in a shed with a welder fixing up a Meastro TD and getting it MOT'd. Then late one dark night runs into a large stone in middle of road ripping off the sump. 8O

Swapped sump and oil pump pickup and various pipery from his spares car and amazingly gets it running but after 2 days it conks out and now won't restart… thats soul distroying.

Atleast with MK1s they are DIYable compared to newer stuff, parts are widely availble and if kept in good condition virtually depreication proof.

SINCE MAY!!?? lol I wish my list was that short lol
rattles in your car, i can deal with mechanical stuff but when i hear a vibration or a rattle i rip my car apart to find it,
Had one the other day and it was a full set of house keys……Who's house I have no idea!
It'll be alraight in summer ha i keep saying this!  :oops:
