Child Car Seat

Afternoon all..

I have a question regarding the recent legislation for child car seats. I was wondering if anyone knew of any manufacturer who sells child car seats compatible with the seat belt assembly in a mk1.

I have a 1 year old daughter (she was 1 yesterday!) and I'm thinking of keeping the golf on the proviso that I can find a safe, compatible car seat for it.

Does anyone else here use their golf to ferry the kids around in child car seats, and if so can you let me know where you get the car seat?

Many thanks in advance,

AndyC

Me again…

I have found some information concerning a type of child restraint system called "LATCH", which can apparently by retrofitted to older cars.

I was wondering if anyone else has done this with their Golfs, or if (as originally mentioned) there are compatible car seats that you can buy.

Any help would be much appreciated as, having not had any firm interest in the car in the for sale section of the site, I'm thinking of keeping it. But if I can't use the car to transport my daughter I'll probably end up losing the car…

Thanks!

I have a seat (from Halfrauds) that fits into the front passenger seat, the seatbelt goes across the lap and across (2 year old) grand daughter's shoulder then throught a bracket built into the back of the childseat which adjusts for correct height. So seat AND child are held as a normal passenger.
Advantages are that you can reach the child easy…
Disadvantages …… my grand daughter is so inquisitive, nosey and critical …watches EVERY move, tuts if I do something different from before, tells me when to pull the sunvisor down, tells me about 'lights' (traffic lights) and traffic queues - I MUST STOP SWEARING !!!!! Then 'splits' on me to her mother !!!! SHE SHOULD BE IN THE BACK !!!

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

Sorry I might be off the mark here but it looks like you own a tin top in which case doesn't it come with three point belts in the back? I have a Cabby and had three point belts fitted. Not a bad job either.

I was wondering though what you were using before the law came in?

Hi there…

I have two 3 point belts and a centre lap belt in the back seat of my golf.

They may well have been fitted aftermarket, but they are there nonetheless…

Cheers,

What exactly is your problem?

Our 2.5yr old is often in his seat in the golf.

That is what I thought?

You have three point belts in the back - there are LOADS of car seats that utilise a three point belt as the restraint, especially to take a 1 yr old?

The problem with our current car seat (and perhaps I wrongly assumed this was a common problem) is that the belt socket extrudes too far from the seat and as such interferes with the restraint mechanism on the chair. If you could tell me what car seat you use I could try it out…

Cheers!

I was recommended a Britax First Class Si car seat for my golf.
It has 2 fitting options for 2 types of seatbelt buckles (Buckles that are tight to the seat and those which have a length of strap before the buckle).

Very good seat, has a tilt option and looks very comfortable.
You can use it front and backward facing so can be used from birth also.

Would recommend it to you mate.

That sounds Ideal…

Can I ask a favour? It would be really helpful if you could post a picture of the seat installed in your car, so that i can see how the harness interacts with the chair…

I've had a look at www.kiddicare.com and they have them in stock for around ?90, which isn't bad.
