Bought another mk1
Well seen as my mechanic is waiting for xmas till he dropps the 16v in thought i may as well get a run around! Plus TSR still havent sent me the loom 2 weeks after ordering… : :evil:
well this ones a y plate, alpine wht again, with green tint glass, mfa, sunroof and rust! lol
been fixing bits all weekened just need to get a standard exhust put on coz its got a horrible scorpion twin dtm exhust barely hanging on there - they chopped the exhust cut out to fit it!!! :evil:
gonna respray this one and put it back to standard then put it up for sale when i get mine back so nows ur chance to see the b4 pics if ur interested!

I'd get it painted and chuck any crappy addon's, other wise leave it just as it is!!!

DTM exhausts
Looks like I'll have to get my DTM exhaust that was on mine cleaned up b4 u so I can get mine on E bay first .
Why would anyone want there car exhaust system to sound so loud that you cant here the MK1 rattle. Sorry I just dont get it coz its part of the ownership. It use to bother me at first but now I look for bumps.

Weren't BR Motorsoprt a reputed MK1 engine tuner from the eighties. G6orge, does the car appear to have had any engine mods in the past? Looks like the tailgate has had the badge holes smoothed over.

Just take your time and it comes out easy! I did mine on my own, and put it back in on my own!
I'd keep the Zender spoiler, I think it looks good on a white car especially with the black tailgate surround!!!
With that BRM sticker on, I'd say there is a very good chance it has had some engine work done at some point…

Well Rich,
From the inside, I started in the top drivers corner.
Using finger tips I peeled back the seal and pushed it under the body seam. It's kind of hard to describe, but if you have a go you'll see what I mean. Work all the way across the top, then down the two sides. At this point only the bottom of the seal should be sitting correctly. from inside again, apply some light pressure to the top drivers corner and work your way across to the passenger side. You should feel the screen move and hear the seal "Releasing". mine wasn't stuck down or anything, just after nearly 20 years of sitting in place, it kind of wants to stay there!
Continue repeating this process and slowly work down the sides too.
Takes about 20mins, it is a killer on the fingers though!
The screen actually appears to bend if you press hard enough, though this is the point where it normally breaks, so be careful! just be sure to apply pressure gently and evenly so the screen is being pushed out straight and is not twisting.
It is difficult to explain this really, but if you have a go and take your time, I'm sure you will succeed.
If you do actually break it, then you can almost guarantee that a garage would have, as they tend to be quite heavy handed, unless of course, they cut the seal, but then you have to get a new one of those!
A mate of mine has his own VW Specialist Garage. Whenever he takes a screen out for a customer he advises them that it often breaks and that he would not accept liability for a new one and that it would be at their own risk!

I see exactly what you mean. I'm used to the old "sit in the seat and push it out with your feet brigade" which is fine for the older toughened glass but not Ok for laminated.
I'll give your method a go next time I'm screening - which won't be long!
Could be a useful "How To" that covers removal and installation of all the glass.

A s far as i know it has a redline single butterfly throttle body, and a k&n!
so who knows.. does feel quite quick though…

had a quote from a guy who my local friendly vw parts man gave me to swap the glass! ?300 smakers!

Can understand your concern about tackling the front screen but you should be able to do all the rest yourself. Did the rear screen recently, took a bit of time, but the glass does not have to flex much to fit into the aperture. The rear side glass looks like it would be very similar process to the tailgate.
Used thick string inserted into the rubber and bycycle tyre irons to lever the seal over the aperture. I should mention the tyre irons were made of plastic - metal ones might be a bit harsh 8O . I was fitting a new seal so I cut the old one to get the glass out.

Took all the glass out of my Campaign the other week following the comments above. Didn't break any of it and got the seals out intact.
I was quite easy really - I used about 6 or 8 flat bladed screwdrivers of all sizes and inserted them between the seal lip and window frame. I could then progress round slowly pusing the seal lip over the frame easily.
Once top and sides done it just lifts out!

Talking of screen removal, I need to replace my tailgate. I've got the replacement but it's not got green tints. I need to swap my campaign glass over. Any tips therefore on fitting the glass into the tailgate?
