body dropping
I'm going to body drop a 1979 mk1 i've got…fed up scrapping control arms everywhere i go..
I have been searching the web for nights now on the subject - and have only really found some detailed info on how to raise the stock suspension tower. By doing that your coilovers will have more travel before they become inafective…
But the control arms and sump are going to hit the ground before anything else ….I suppose you can addapt the engine brackets/ mounts to raise engine by couple of inches
But what happens with the control arms??
Does anyone know "The bucket" (u.s blue rabbit with red engine bay - can see he has raised towers with a support for each and cut away inner wing for tyre clearance -
but running that low i would imagine that he would have to have raised control arms???
this is what i want to go for - http://www.fastcar.co.uk/2011/09/28/body-dropped-mk-1-vw-golf-gti/body-dropped-mk1-vw-golf-08/
A frame that takes top strut mount and possibly also acts as the lower control arm
MK1 rabbit build thread | Page 2 | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum
This one - cutting the whole lot off at the bulkhead and raising - atleast your keeping the geometry between control arms/ strut tower / engine mounts etc..
But i'm not sure i want to go down this route..
If anyone can forward me some clear pics of framework mainly during contruction..any diagrams.. idea's for control arms and engine raise brackets - or anyone they know who has done similar and might be able to advise me..
Regards
rowan.
