Banks Boil My Blood
basically i had a planned overdraft with TSB which i payed back monthly. 2 months after paying the last installment i get a phone call to say there has been charges placed on my account for an unplanned overdraft. they demanded 135 pounds for the charges as they said there charges work 2 months behind so the interest was from when i was still in my overdraft. payed the 135 pounds took it on the chin lesson learned. was told over the phone after paying up that i could close the count if i wished as no more charges would be placed on the account. then another 2 months went by got another call from tsb demanding that i now have to pay them 215 quid in un planned overdraft fees. to say i lost my rag was an understatement. they gave me the same speil about them working 2 months behind so the charges wer placed because of the 135 quid charges from last time. baring in mind they stated i would have nomore charges. i asked how much would i have to pay to be clear of all charges an they couldnt give me a definate answer (illegal?) also i asked would i not incure charges for this new ammount for which they couldnt answer either. i just feel that this is financial blackmail. they have given me til friday to pay.
where do i stand with this?

citizens advice is prob your next best move even that first lot of charges has to be a bit dodgy and a bit illegal, although banks seem to make the rules up as they go along as far as taking money from you, dont wory dude i cant stand them either robbing gits

the banks are loosing cases over unfair bank charges. Which dont forget means they loose the charges but also incur thousands of pounds in staff time and solicitors fees.
So if you have kept you account in good order then I would consider ringing them and pointing out this fact and the fact you are considering making a claim for what are clearly unfair charges and unfair practices.
In the meantime keep a record of all calls what was said and whom you spoke to.

the simple polite phone call knowing your rights has worked for me on one occasion.

I thought all claims against unfair bank charges had been frozen since they started investigating those charges?
Feel your pain buddy! When I was at Uni I got into difficulty with HSBC who I'm no longer with, and then got a LOT of compound charges from Lloyds (i.e. ?30 charge for an unpaid direct debit, which knocked me into an unauthorised overdraft, another ?30 charge etc..) which they usually cancelled if I complained enough.
Now I'm in a steady job and earning regular money, don't have an overdraft they're nice as pie, and hell bent on selling me upgraded bank accounts. Funny that.
Can't complain too much as they did give me a pretty good loan to buy the golf with

They are great banks arent they
You could complain to the financial ombudsman, we are in the
process of doing this over several run ins with banks.
One issue we had, ?2000 overdraft facility (hand when you keep being
made redundant every 5 mins) suddenly they reduce it by ?1000 overnight, no warning just want the ?1000. We paid it, but thats not the point is it? its called an overdraft for a reason.
