My GTI had a 45 amp one in it when I got it. When that died last year GSF recomended using a 65 amp one as they reckoned 45 amps is a bit marginal? Didn't say what make just asked for year and model of car. think was ?55 plus VAT.
Cheers

Hi my alternator went the other month  .
I went to Greggies my local scrappy and found a Bosch alternator which looked identical to my old Bosch alty (same mounts, pully size & offset) But it's a 90 amper!!!!! 8O (must be off a big diesel ). Only cost me tenner.
She runs much better and my wiring has not fried (touch wood).
It's coming in handy as I have just fitted a relayed headlight wiring harness and 120 / 160 w bulbs.
Bling!

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

to be honest it wouldnt take much to upgrade the wiring all youd need is about 2 metres of o gauge thick battery cable run between alternator starter and battery sorted

oops yeah forgot to say the little blue wire goes to the dash and tells you if the alternator is not workign i.e voltage drops below the 13.5v
