However a Ferrari 250 GTO went for $28.5M, ?15.7M, so not much chance of it beating that. Very nice but, for me, the Ferrari is 100x nicer.

The quality of the parts made considering they had no computer controlled machines etc. back then is something to savour.

I can imagine the workmanship that went into it, doubt there are many, if any, modern cars that would come close. Just that something like a Ferrari would have a broader appeal. Can't imagine popping down to Tescos in either though!
I remember going through a Mcdonald's drive through in a 1908 Silver Ghost!
A Ferrari is more of a boyhood dream. I'd think there was something wrong if my son had a picture of an old Roller on his bedroom wall!
The people that own these types of cars usually have an array of different types of cars anyway. Alot of our customers would turn up in helicopters!

Yes Ferrari's and the like are stuff of boyhood dreams, but then most never grow up so still applies!
I guess there wouldn't be anything wrong with having the RR poster, just a tad unsual.
Shame that often these cars are locked away in air conditioned, humidity controlled garages for the rest of their days, they should all be forced to drive them.

kind of off topic but my grandad rolled and wrote off a silver cloud when he was a chaffeur….
Did he bother clocking off or did he just get his coat!?
I think a few test drivers were killed whilst testing these early cars. Remember there was hardly any highway code and bulk of the traffic would have been horse and cart!

I love old Rolls' for the sheer quality of them, the other half is a Rolls & Bentley lover … currently has a 20 / 25 Sedanca, an old S1 convertble, an E-type ( gorgeous but again over-rated & flawed ) and a Bentley Arnage ( which I love becuase it's just BRUTAL ! )
Guess who earns all the money ?
