A/C in a MK1?????

Was this a factory option or an expensive aftermarket add on?

it was a factory option in the usa but not offered in the uk

No room under the bonnet for the A/C gubbins from the factory, and no real demand back in the 70s either. Far to expensive for the Golf at the time. It would have cost around ?1700 back then, something like ?6000 in todays money!

So would the A/C kit for a MK1 I have lurking in the garage be a rare item??

I have seen a few on Ebay , mainly from American Rabbit models used here by service personnel [yanks on air bases] !

From memory last kit made ?120.00 , so not rare and down to personnel taste at the end of the day.

There was an after market kit in the mid eighties using the same American based A/C unit complete with dash panel marketed but un-like today it never caught on mainly due to price .

 8O  No wonder it wasn't a popular extra  

I was wondering wether or not to put it into my project Campaign or not, its got a 1.9 conversion so it should be able to cope with the load of running the stystem, or if i should just sell it, I just thought a MK1 with A/C would be fairly unique
