19.0 volts

The jetta threw a shoe today,after 17 years and 125000 miles the alternator decided to charge at 19 volt,the headlights were ace  8O
Funny though as the part that failed was a Valeo,made in FRANCE so i will let my car off  :wink:
Could be worse could be a citroen.

Any damage to anything? - I hope that your radio wasn't on during the srge, or it could be knackered (more likely if it's a modern one with loads of electronics in it).

I know of someone who  wrote off a Mk1 diesel by trying to jump-start it from a truck battery The 24volts 8O blew almost everything electrical, and it wasn't in great condition anyway, so it got broken for spares… :cry:

everything was fine,i drove to work with the lights on and heated rear screen to save the battery  8O
