1.8 8V Carb

I do belive it was a Peirburg 2e2, Weber replacements was an upgrade me thinks. Most Carbs for the A1 was the variant of Solex/Peirburg.

I would like to know if the Cam is the same from a 1.8 8V GTi. From comon sence it probally was. Just a thought tho.

For an 88 cab ETKA/ETOS lists these camshafts for the DX, KT engines

026109101G - I presume this the is the 1.8 Carb
049109101N - This is the GTi one

The 1.8 engine came in 66 (EX block), 77 (JH) and 82 (DX KT) Kw Versions

This info is from ETKA and ETOS and if anyone knows better please correct  :D

got a cam and a hydo head from a Mk2 1.8 GTI . My head is a Solid lifter..grrrr

Now what i would like to do is just swap em over, is there any complications in this surgical procedure?. Waterways might play a part in this i thinks, but with any one with info? also head gasket, will i need the 1.6 head gasket or go for a new 1.8? i just hope its all going to fit like a glove, or am i going to sweat like micheal Jackson in a playground.

youll need to use the 1.8 head and regards the waterways just lie the heads next to each other and go from there but i would hope they would be the same if not you could have some seriuos problems!!!!!! :?

correct me if i'm wrong but if your golf is a 1.6, then the heads are completely different, the 1.6 head will have a flat bottom and the 1.8 head will be dished, and so you will run into compression ratio nightmares.
Your best bet is to source a 1.6/1.8L mechanical tappet camshaft, and wh
en fitted you should see about 8-10 bhp increase.
this is my 1st post,.

Big mac is right about piston shapes being different between the 1.6 and 1.8, I think you'll be easier looking for a cam to suit your head. A decent cam and carb in a 1.8/1.6 should see it up near GTI power
