unleaded fuel?!

i have a standard 1.0 1983 mk1 GG engine code mk1 and just wondering am i ok just putting normal unleaded fuel in it? one of the mechanics mentioned to me as we're about to start work on it, pls help asap!! dont want to burn valves out or anything! chris

as far as i remember all VW's after 1979 had hardened valves and seats to run in countrys with less then premium fuel such as france  so you should be fine.

can anyone confirm this for me?

was on the phone to crazy quiff's ordering some parts and asked him, and he sid it should be fine, same as what you said, cheers for the reply bud confirming it!

my mate has a 78 1.5 auto i was just wonderin if he should be running on four star or using an additive???

All watercooled VW's are fine with unleaded fuel.

vw ran hard seat's and valves on all cars from around 76 i think as fuel in german sucked at the time.

It'll be fine, tank it and don't worry. Any mk1 will run on unleaded ( apart from diesels obviously )

I seem to remember any VW after '73 or '74 can run on unleaded.
