You should be okay with this , Polo also had lift pump in the tank but if you use GTi type pump [don't forget also a suitable filter] you should be okay . Mount it where the Gti item would be .

cool :D  sounds like a simple job(touch wood!) just leave 1.1 tank and lines in place and splice in an injection pump and filter from any gti. :D
cheers dan.

I think you've got the wrong idea here? I notice you'd posted about 3 different threads asking about different aspects.

Basically:

1. The carb engine uses a mechanical pump only, and the fuel is taken from the top of the tank
2. Mk1 GTI is MECHANICAL fuel injection, meaning it needs higher pressure fuel than an ELECTRONIC FI car. It has an electric pump next to the tank (no head) and a hole in the side of the tank.
3. Later cabbys, indeed all later VWs, used an IN-TANK lift pump and took the fuel from the top of the tank. Those cars which still used mech FI at the time, also used a 2nd pump to boost the pressure.

There is a 4th way of doing things, which is to have an electric pump but which can draw against the head in the same way as the mechanical pump can (ie its an electric pump version of 1). This is what many people do, to feed carbs on previously injection engines, basically it replaces the mech pump but this type of pump can only supply a lowish pressure.

Now, its up to you to research if this 4th technique can supply enough pressure for your proposed FI (I suspect it will be fine). If not, then you still have options 3 and 2 available. Option 4 is easiest and cheapest, then 3, then 2.

Does all that make sense?

OK are you now unconfused?

I think a good way of doing this is to use the tintop gti tank and fuel pump, only one pump to worry about and the k-jet pump will supply enough pressure for most eventualities.
