Starting problems....again!

I started my car this morning and it was about to start up and then went dead.
It ticks over fine but just doesnt start up.
I have replaced the starter motor, the fuel accumulator, fuel lines ( of which one leaks ) and the fuel pump.
I went down to near where the fuel pump is and theres no sound from it at all.
Is it possible for the fuel pump to go again? and would a leaking fuel line account to a problem like this?
Or could it be something else?

Its the fuel line between the fuel pump and the fuel accumulator that has the leak.
Could this maybe have caused the problem?

As usual any advice would be great.

Cheers.

The later cabriolets had a second lift pump in the tank, 1600 GTI's only have one.

Hope that helps.

1600 will only have one pump.

If your pump is not working, your engine would not run AT ALL.
If you can get it to idle (By bump starting it or something?  :dontknow: ) but it won't start on the starter, then it could be a fuel relay problem?

I had a split pipe the other day. The car started and ran ok, just sprayed fuel everywhere! You would have to have a serious split (LOADS of fuel leaking) for it to affect the running of the car.

Are you sure it is fuel related? Have you checked for a spark at the plugs?

Ez all....

I did check the sparks when i changed the fuel pump.
I also had to change the ignition socket that site near the wiper motor.
I have also changed my starter motor.
The car idles fine, just doesnt start. Am starting to think that it may be the fuel relay.
I do have a split in  a fuel line that was installed.
Really gettin on me T*Ts!

Nice 1 guys.

Have you bridged the fuel pump relay connections to get the fuel pump working continuosly. Can test whether it is the realy or not then.

Riteo!

I have replaced the fuse that goes in the fuel pump relay and each time i start the car it blows.
Does this mean i need a new relay?

Cheers.

It means that somewhere something is putting too much current out. Could indicate a failing pump? :dontknow: Or some dodgy wiring somewhere in the circuit. Unlikey to be a faulty relay that is causing the fuse to blow.

Damn....

Its got a new pump on it. I did notice some wire attached to the inserts of the fuel pump relay, where u plug it in. Looked pretty dodgey!
Am gonna get a new relay cos i opened it up and its burnt out inside.

Nice one.

Must be a bare wire somewhere. Try to follow the live wire to the fuel pump. Maybe some of the plastic shielding has been worn through rubbing on the bodywork?
