Starting again after running out of petrol
Just say, for example, that a "friend" of mine ran out of petrol in his 1.8 GTI, what's the best way of getting it up and running again. Yes, yes, clearly first put some fuel in, but after that.
I seem to remember running out in my 1.3 about 15 years ago and my mate pumping somthing in the engine to draw some fuel through before trying to start it again, because it wouldn't just start straight off again.
Any help much appreciated

Not sure about that - but if it's a GTI, running out of petrol is not good because of all the sedamaent. I'd be tempted to change the fuel filter. If you have time, clean the tank out of debris/dirt etc.
Good luck with it…

If you turn the key to the 1st position the fuel pump should prime the system. Let it do that for a minute or so (you should hear the pump whirring away intermittently), and then just start her up.
A new fuel filter wouldn't hurt, but you may get away with it depending on how dirty your tank is.

Thanks All
Will give it a go. Fuel tank and filler neck relatively new so hoping not to much muck.
