standard back box for a 83 gti.. options??

this is the standard back box that im running at the moment but i was wandering if there is any variations on standard back box that will fit  the gti,  i like the standard tail pipe look but would prefer the box to not be so much on show under the car…??!

Thanks for compliments! My idea is to have a nice standard look back box with a fully chromed standard tail pipe  either factory bore or slightly larger.

something like the pic below is what im thinking, this on a mk2 using an o.e back box with the tail pipe removed, chromed and re weled on….

mine sits almost the same as yours but I'm happy with mine .

try disconecting the back box and rotating it slightly either way, you may get a better look.

also you could fit a new or smaller rear exhaust rubber to pull the box tighter up

ye i was thinking about rotating it the box if possible before rewelding the tail pipe back on so that would sit back in the valance gap. I'll get the box off this wkend and get the chroming sorted out.

I have a 1.6 standard back box on my 1.8, they fit pretty nicely, better than the 1.8 ones as they are straight through although have slightly smaller bore, has made a noticeable difference to the top end. :-)  
Get the wire reinforced hangers from gsf, they are so much nicer and don't snap and leave your exhaust dragging along beneath the car!
