rear silencer

can anyone tell me if the cabrio silencers are the same as the tin tops?
im only askin cos i can get my hands on a brand new back box for peanuts and just want to make sure its gonna fit!!

It all depends on what car you have and what type of tin top the back box is from. Is the back box from a GTI and is your cabrio a GTI? If so, early cabrios without big bumpers share the same back box as the tin top. Later big bumper cabrios have a different back box, these have different hangers and the tail pipe is different.

my car is a 89 cabrio and all i know about the b/box is that its for a 1.8 gti,think im gonna have to get some more info on the b/box before i buy it

If its a regular VAG GTI box and you can confirm that with the part No AND its for peanuts,  get it anyways.

171 253 609 A  for "EG"s or swap the "A" for a "P" for "DX"s

There are members of this forum who would give their eye teeth for an original GTI box so if it turns out to be of no use to you, stick an ad in the "For Sale" section.
