I don't know but guess is it anything to do with heating air incoming to the inlet manifold? :dontknow:

thats what my dad thought too !! but thinking about it with the exhaust gases passing the bottom of the pipe it would create a vacuum at the top end !!!!!! been googling for an hour aswell and still nothing !!

its the EGR or exhaust gas recirc system it's part of the emissions control system it reinjects a small amount of exhaust into the inlet manifold where it mixes with the fuel mixture and reenters the combustion chamber. it is used to reduce the nitrogen levels.. we run it on some bikes to reduce emissons. if you want i think it's writen in the haynes manual as to what it is. not willing to say if you can just block it off or not. it may make your car need retuning and may mean its a struggles to pass emissions.

if you block it up the car will need re-tuning, but you will need that anyway with the new manifold on as you will now be on a weak miture anyway. the same as if you vent the breathers to atmostphere…
for the most power you need the cleanist pureist air possible, no impurities to lower the octane value of the fuel (oil vapor does this) or the O2 content of the air, which will again lower the power.
