Possible Fuel Problem!!!!
Went to change filler neck today but the one thats on the car is aluminum so no rust on that, tank has been cleaned and I have had the inspection cover open today and there is no rust in the tank, the filter has very little sediment in it, but changed it anyway. The car is only driving for a few minutes then cuts out. If you wait a few minutes then rock Tafy backwards and forwards he will start again drive for about 2-3 miles then cut out again…
I am open for idea's or maybe's…?
He is a 1.1 ( originally 1.3 but fire forced engine change) 5 Door 83 model
When tank was cleaned fuel lines were done as well.
Its a normal carb (not sure of what make it is?) this does need tweaking though but I am pretty sure the problem is not this.
Please can somebody possibly shed some light or give me something to try. I am going to take off the pump and see if I can clean the filter within or just replace the pump to see if its that…
just as an after thought when I turn him over with the choke out and pump the pedal you cant smell fuel like you would expect if you flooded him.

Years ago, I had a Polo which had the same symptoms….it was the mechanical fuel pump.
Can you clean the fuel pump or is it try and track one down?

If I remember correctly they are sealed units, I bought a new one from VW agent though it was 16 years ago , they should be available fom GSF or Euro car parts, didnt take long to change either.
Your a darling Euro Car Parts has one for ?21 including postage and VAT its gotta be worth that to see if it sorts the problem.
I will bookmark Euro Car Parts.
Nice one Gammygolfgti.
