Petrol station mishap!!!!!!
Ay up, i have just filled up my Golf for the first time. I have only been putting in ?5 ?10's because of money etc. So today i filled it right up.
In my old ar i used to brim it right up to the filler cap almost. I did this in the golf and the fuel started pouring out everywhere by the ful pipe under the rear right side of the car.
I obviously wont do this again but i just want to know why/how it did this. Is there an overflow valve or something?
Any input would be great.
Cheers

Rusty fuel filler pipe?

Common area for the rust to start is around te top of filler neck and the 1st bend under the arche, sounds like a new filler neck for you

If it's not the fuel filler neck it could be the O-ring which seals the sender unit in the top of the tank. You can get to this under a cover plate under the back seat. Part is only a couple of quid from VW.
