No lift pump

Ive seen loads of thread with people stating the importance of making sure your lift pump is working to ensure the main pump isnt overstrained.
But Ive got an early Kjet Scirocco and it doesn't have a lift pump or fuel reservoir as standard?
Should I be looking at fitting them?

Nope, the lift pump was only fitted to later cars because VW consolidated the tank design for fuel injection and carbs.

post-84 cab and scirocco used the lift pump, before that its same as mk1 just the main pump under the car.
basically if there is an L shaped rubber pipe from main pump to the bottom of the tank then you have an early setup
