No fuel to cylinders

Well got my new pump and relay today, fitted them, already have a strong spark and engine turns over fine.  But no joy - wouldnt start - so started off by checking i had fuel to cylinders by assuming the amount of time it was cranking the plugs would be wet, but were dry.  Next slackened off a banjo off the top of the meter head, and was no fuel.  Next slackened the inlet to the filter, and again no fuel.  I could hear the pump working so i assumed this was ok.

So the next thing was to follow the fuel line from the filter backwards and came across a canister behind the pump next to the filler pipe - this looked rusty as hell and have no idea what it is, but gave it a good whack with the trusty engineers fine adjustment tool, and fuel flowed up to the meter head. (loosened a banjo again and fuel went everywhere!  8O )

So now I know i have fuel in the injector lines but the plugs are still dry - Is it possible for the injectors to seize?  I ask this because I know the car has been off the road for around 10 years sat in a field!

Is it worth pulling them out and checking them or should i just bite the bullet and buy new ones?

If im buying new injectors is the 5th injector the same as the other 4?

or could it be the meter head not supplying enough pressure? how do i test this?  I know it has some pressure due to the way it sprayed out quickly when i slightly slackened a banjo

Only way to properly test is using a fuel pressure gauge.

The 5th injector is different to the other 4 - these are mechanical, the 5th in electrical.

The thing you whacked is the accumulator. If its that rusty on the outside….I wonder how much rust/water/dirt/whatever is in the inside of the system! There's a bunch of little microfilters in various locations (like the fuel pump inlet, WUR inlet), I'd be tempted to take a close look at these, etc.

Check out the just-launched Technical Section on the left hand menu bar - everything you wanted to know about FI but were afraid to ask!

Somewhat cheaper from me ;)

Like paul said only a pressure test will show you where the problem is - I also sell the test kits.
