when golfs came out in th 70s the petrol was 2 stroke (91RON) so they should make more power with todays (98RON) yes ?????????????????

I think you're right that the higher the RON the more power potential but I think the engine has to be tuned for the higher RON to really see any difference

like the distributer . so what about 1.8 16v kr with super unleaded (98) with distributer adjusted to suit . ie what would be the power ? std 139BHP =super 150BHP???? what you think m8

It wasnt 2 stroke , it was 2 star. There was also 3,4 and 5 star. [memory hazy] the higher the better.

the octane rating on the leaded petrol was higher than is generally available today. they used to do 100ron leaded petrol.
