miles per tank
I was wondering what mileage i should be getting out of my 1.8 clipper auto at the moment i get around 300 miles out of a tank but that seems a bit low is there anyway of improving this. i've already changed the carb to a webber 34/36 and that has got the car working better before that i'd never got to fill it up as it always broke down, now the only problem i have is it makes a loud clicking noise when the rev's are over 2k i thought it was the tappets as i had a ford that sounded the same but that did it all the time. anyway this car wouldn't be fun if it didn't have problems

I get low 30s on a long run and mid to late 20s in town. Needs a good tune up though. Generally not get more than 275 miles to a tank though…

i only get 150 - 180 max!
i know my engines quite heavily modified though, but i would be more than over the moon with 300!

Just run my 1985 1.8 GTi Cab over 342 miles at an average speed of 52 mph. This trip used 39 litres of fuel:
Conversion: 4.54609 litres per gallon: thus 39 litres = 8.58 gallons.
342/8.58 = 39.86 miles/gallon
Converting to kilometres/litre:
39.86 * 0.35401 (conversion factor) = 14.11 kilometres / litre.

Just covered 375 miles - mixture of urban, motorway A and B roads - about
25% urban
25% motorway
25% A roads
25% B roads
used exactly 50 litres of fuel (had to squeeze the last 1/2 litre in)
gives 34 mpg - so you should get around 370 - 380 miles to a tank on the above useage - will fall on an all uban cycle though
