Max Fuel Screw Adjustment
I've got a few questions on adjusting the max fuel screw: -
1. Is it a 3mm allen key I need?
2. Does turning it clockwise make it richer, or leaner?
3. Do I need a CO meter to tune it accurately, or can I just do it by ear?
Any help would be very much appreciated - the old girl is slurping away on the juice - I reckon I'm getting about 15mpg!!!
Thanks

Yes its 3mm
If iremember its the opposite clockwise is leaner n vice versa
Not sure bout the other bit but know you need a long allen key if it is the 16v got mine from a craft shop.
!5mpg wowsers thats a bit rich least the fuel prices have come down.

Turning the screw clockwise makes it richer, and anticlockwise makes it leaner.
Without a CO meter, to tune it effectively you need to warm the engine through, ensure the timing is set, and then gently lean the engine off until it really struggles to idle.
Note where the screw is, and then richen the mixture until the engine picks up revs, and keep richening until it dies back again. Note where the screw is, and then lean off until the revs rise again.
Optimum power is at this point (stoichiometric combustion for those in the know ), and optimum economy is slightly leaner than this point.
Hope this comes in useful to someone!
