Loud buzz from near right hand rear wheel area

There's a Loud buzz from near right hand rear wheel area. I think this is supposed to buzz, but mine sounds like theres a trapped bee under my car, and often smells of petrol.
Theres an ongoing thing with my car and petrol at the moment anyway, im getting it rolling roaded next wednesday, timing done etc.
thought id ask incase it was anything to worry about.

the buzz will be your fuel pump, and is normal (mine did it from new)

although I'd have a look for any fuel leaks around it, if it's leaking there i woud imagine it could cause all sorts of hessitation problems etc.

If petrol smell worht fitting a new o-ring to the round cover over the tank sender unit. (That round cover under the back seat.)

It's ony a couple of quid from VW and easy to replace. Cured my petrol smell and will save lots of time looking for a leak that doesn't exist somewhere else!

same

I have this same problem with the loud buzzing.

If the car is idleing and the buzzing starts, then the car splutters and stalls, and will not start until left alone for about 15 minutes.

I assumed that is was the fuel pump, but all of my fuel lines are rusted and I imagine that they will snap if I try to change the pump.

It's on a mk1 golf gti cabriolet, 1984.

I have already replaced the warm up regulator and cold start values but this didnt improve it.

If your fuel lines are that rusty you could have a major problem with small rusty flakes in the fuel. You really need to sort it. As a short term measure, changing the fuel filter may help?

thanks

Thanks for the advice.

I've already changed the filter but it didnt help.

Is it an easy job to change the fuel lines, or am I better off getting a mechanic to do it?

If you need new fuel lines - I do them

Not particulary difficult but fiddly.

The buzzing could be air entrapment in the pipes causing the vibration and lack of fuel - had that on my cabriolet just in front of the accumulator.  Tokk all apart and got all the water out also  and seemed to do the trick  :D

The cutting out after 15min might be muck in the tank via the dreaded corroded fuel filler pipe. If so a new pump will do just the same. Best to have a look in the tank with a torch via the access panel/fuel gauge sender.
